Hamlin's Motto: "Reflecting the Past, Living the Present, Building the Future"
The town's namesake and founding are related to the expected arrival of a railroad company. The Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railway received land from R. D. Moore in 1902, and the town was organized in 1905 and named after railway official W. H. Hamlin. The next year, the Orient arrived, followed by the Texas Central Railroad two years later and the Abilene and Southern in 1910.

Stuart Hamblen (1908-1989) Radio/television/gospel singer and composer and U.S. Presidential candidate for the Prohibition Party in 1952
Bowen Pope - Long-time editor of the Hamlin Herald, who served as state representative for the 115th District form 1925-1931
Col. L. Bryan shelburne, jr. (ret) In 1990, career U. S. Army Band director assumed command of the famed U. S. Army Band "Pershing's Own"
Robert S. Strauss (1918-) National Democratic chairperson, ambassador, presidental Medal of Freedom recipient, U.S. ambassador to the soviet Union and ambassador to the Russian Federation
John Braselton Fillmore Wright (1877-1959) Composer of about 500 gospel songs, including "Precious Memories." which was written in 1923 while living just outside of Hamlin.
